Planning

Each and every community makes important planning decisions based on population. Building new roads, schools, hospitals, senior centers, and emergency services are all decisions that may be based upon census data. Help your community start planning now by updating your Census information. Learn more about updating your information here.

Representation

Your Representative to the U.S. Congress acts as an advocate in the government for you and your neighborhood. The decennial census is used to assign seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Population numbers derived from census data are used to define legislative districts and school districts, as well as zip codes and municipal ward districts. Updating  information through LUCA is essential in ensuring that your community is accurately represented within our federal government.

What to expect on Local Update of Census Addresses Forms

Active, functioning, legal governments can participate in LUCA. LUCA is for local officials to review and adjust the U.S Census Bureau’s residential address list for every community. Local officials should develop a strategy for reviewing addresses in their communities. You will need to know and enter your county and state code, as well as your entity ID number on your LUCA form. These are assigned to each area by the U.S. Census Bureau. You will also need to enter your most recent count of housing unit addresses and group living quarters. Be sure to include multi-unit structures such as apartment or condominium buildings.  Participants have until April to complete this process.
