Financing Growth

Having access to capital and insuring your receivables are important aspects for small and medium-sized businesses as they expand into new global markets. The U.S. Small Business Administration and Export Import Bank of the U.S. offer loans, lines of credit, foreign buyer financing and export credit insurance to support your international sales growth.

Many tools are available to help Ohio companies address the following export finance needs:

Working Capital

Do you have the available working capital to respond to export orders coming your way, or are you turning away business for lack of working capital? Solution: Working capital loans from SBA and Ex-Im Bank

  • The SBA offers term loans and/or lines of credit up to $5 million for facilities, equipment, and working capital that will enhance export capabilities.
  • The Ex-Im Bank offers short- and medium-term working capital guarantees starting at $2 million.

Getting Paid

Do you want to export but are afraid of not getting paid? Do you have customers that have always paid CASH-IN-ADVANCE, but now want terms? Do you want to open new markets for your products? Solution: Export Credit Insurance through Ex-Im Bank

  • Export credit insurance can cover 90-98 percent of your shipment’s invoice price. You may borrow against insured receivables, extend credit to your best customers, or expand into new markets. The cost for export credit insurance can be as low as $550 to insure a $100,000 invoice.

Financing for Buyers

Do you have customers in need of financing? Solution: Ex-Im Bank will loan your creditworthy foreign customers the funds to purchase your U.S.-made goods and services, at attractive interest rates.

Grant Programs for Marketing

Are you a food producer or processer interested in marketing your product in another market by sampling, packaging or advertising? Do you want to attend an international trade show?  Solution: Branded Program from the Food Export Association of the Midwest.

Alternative Finance

When traditional sources of export finance are not available to Ohio companies, the Ohio Development Services Agency helps them to explore other alternatives, including factoring and forfeiting. Contact a local International Program Director for help.
