The availability of a reliable, skilled workforce is one of the most important factors for businesses planning to expand or relocate. Businesses succeed – or fail – on the work ethic and talent of their human capital, and our partnership with an organization such as the University System of Ohio provides many opportunities for life-long learning and skill development so that Ohio talents remain the best around.
The Workforce and Talent Division is committed to supporting Ohio’s most valuable asset: our workers. Ohio boasts one of the largest labor pools in the country, with 5.9 million workers. With more than 200 institutions of higher learning, thousands more are joining the workforce every year. The Division connects Ohio’s economic development and workforce development resources at the state, regional, and local levels.
The Department of Development’s commitment to meeting the employment needs of Ohio’s businesses is demonstrated by its elevation and realignment of the Department’s Workforce and Talent Division. Today, the Division provides comprehensive solutions for businesses through initiatives such as the Ohio Workforce Guarantee and the Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program. These initiatives offer financial assistance for training, provide reimbursement for instructional costs, materials, and training-related activities, and create opportunities for internships designed to expand Ohio’s high-tech capabilities and create high-paying jobs.
The Workforce and Talent Division continues to build on successful partnerships. The Division collaborates with the Ohio Board of Regents to make the most of the University System of Ohio institutions as research sources, centers of knowledge development, and cultural attractions.
The Workforce and Talent Division embodies the goal of Governor Ted Strickland’s and Lt. Governor Lee Fisher’s Turn Around Ohio plan to link education, workforce development, and the needs of our businesses. New initiatives like the Ohio Young Talent Network and a Task Force on Population Growth, Diversity, and Talent Attraction reinforce the unbreakable link between education and prosperity. The Workforce and Talent Division helps make the jump from school, community college, or university to the workplace as seamless and straightforward as possible.
