Welcome to the Regional Economic Development Director for Northeast Ohio web site. Located midway between New York and Chicago, the area is within 500 miles of 50 percent of the U.S. population and 10 of the largest 25 U.S. markets. Over seven million people reside within a two-hour drive. This Northeast Ohio office serves the counties of Ashtabula, Mahoning and Trumbull. Each county offers a rich heritage of business and industry unique to the region.

Ashtabula County focuses its economic resources near the shores of Lake Erie with nine industrial parks, state-of-the-art chemical and plastic facilities such as Millennium Inorganic Chemicals and Molded Fiberglass Companies. The Lake Erie Ports in Ashtabula and Conneaut provide access to Great Lakes shipping. Tourist attractions are a mainstay in this lakeside county which boasts bountiful wineries, Geneva State Park and beautiful beaches.

Mahoning and Trumbull Counties - commonly referred to as the Mahoning Valley - offer a diverse economic climate ranging from basic manufacturing facilities to leading edge technology. Key employers in the region include Delphi Packard Electric Systems and General Motors are examples of companies whose roots are based in manufacturing and have led the region into the global marketplace with their high-tech facilities.

Youngstown State University and Kent State University's campuses in Ashtabula and Trumbull Counties enhance the region with strong academics and technical training along with research & development opportunities. Each university provides a link between business and education in their respective communities - a vital resource to the success of the region. The Regional Economic Development Director for Northeast Ohio Office actively promotes economic and community development, particularly with the programs and incentives offered by the Ohio Department of Development. Working in conjunction with private, public and non-profit organizations and entities, this Office seeks to assist companies with their location, establishment and expansion requirements. The Office also serves as a link to other State agencies.
