Innovation at Iya Technology - Opportunity for Tina Mims

Tina Mims thought that she would retire from the Berry Company. After all, she had worked there for more than 13 years and was part of management. However, when AT&T purchased Berry, the new company made significant changes, including reducing the workforce at the Berry Network where Tina had worked for some time. She and many of her co-workers lost their jobs and faced a big and unexpected adjustment.

For this mother of three, it was a devastating loss. Over the next four months, Tina actively sought employment through every outlet possible. She had worked her way up the company ladder, even earning an associate degree from Sinclair Community College to advance herself, but as she interviewed for new employment, she was told that she was either overqualified or undereducated.

Finally, Tina answered a posting for a customer service manager position listed on Monster.com. The company, Iya Technology Laboratories, was not a name Tina recognized, but she went for the interview anyway and successfully landed a new job.

Iya Technologies is a Minority Business Enerprise (MBE) company that develops, manufactures, and sells advanced materials using unique chemistries and chemical structures. Iya Technologies is a top distributer for several Fortune 500 companies. The company has received an investment and various business services from Ohio Third Frontier's Entrepreneurial Signature Program, administered by the Dayton Development Coalition.

Tina Mims is excited about obtaining this position, and is enthusiastic about working for in an innovative environment like Iya Technologies. "Iya looks at developing relationships and finding solutions for other companies," Mims said. "They think outside the box. I've found my niche and want to stay to retirement".
