GOVERNOR, PATT- MCDANIEL ANNOUNCE GRANTS TO BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITIES
Projects Invigorate Regional Economies, Generate Jobs for Ohioans  

COLUMBUS – Governor Ted Strickland and Lisa Patt-McDaniel, Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Development, today announced that $3 million in economic development grants have been awarded to aid in the growth of businesses and the creation and retention of jobs in Ohio. The grants, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, were approved today by the State Controlling Board and could create 560 positions and retain 1,197 jobs for Ohioans.

“Ensuring the best access for Ohio businesses by working with partners at a city and county level will drive Ohio’s economy by attracting business investment,” Patt-McDaniel said. “These investments demonstrate Ohio’s commitment to working with the business community and stakeholders at all levels to ensure that companies continue to grow strong in Ohio.”

The City of Harrison will receive a $140,000 Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Fresh Sausage Specialists’ relocation project in the City of Harrison (Hamilton County). Hamilton County will construct road, sewer, and utilities upgrades that will ensure proper site access. This $379,000 project will support the retention of 75 jobs.

Mahoning County will receive a $230,000 Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Republic Special Metals, Inc.’s expansion project in Jackson Township (Mahoning County). Mahoning County will widen an access road near to the project site, as well as conduct sewer upgrades at the site. This $603,000 project will support the creation of 60 positions and the retention of 70 jobs.

Butler County will receive a $150,000 Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Amylin Ohio LLC’s expansion project in West Chester Township (Butler County). Butler County will construct an acceleration and deceleration lane near the Amylin facility that will increase safety and access to the facility and other area businesses. This $270,000 project will support the creation of 500 positions and the retention of 52 jobs.

The City of Akron will receive a $1 million Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC’s retention project the City of Akron (Summit County). The City of Akron will conduct several improvements to roadways in the area of Bridgestone Firestone’s campus. This $11.5 million project will support the retention of 1,000 jobs.

The City of Sidney will receive a $1.5 million Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Sidney’s Industrial Park project in the City of Sidney (Shelby County). The City of Sidney will conduct a number of roadwork, sewer, and water system improvements in support of its $6.1 million industrial park project.

The Roadwork Development Account provides grant assistance to communities for highway and road projects related to job creation and retention. The Roadwork Development Account is funded with gas tax dollars and is restricted to public road projects only.
