COLUMBUS - Governor Ted Strickland today signed a proclamation recognizing April 12-18, 2009 as Community Development Week in Ohio. The proclamation emphasizes the importance of viable communities with adequate infrastructure and affordable housing to create a quality of life and environment that fosters economic growth.
“The State of Ohio is proud to partner with federal and local governments, businesses, nonprofit agencies and lending institutions as we work together to build and foster healthy communities for Ohio’s citizens,” said Strickland.
The state offers a comprehensive approach to providing affordable housing and stronger communities by offering programs and resources that address the spectrum of community development needs. The Ohio Department of Development’s Office of Housing and Community Partnerships administers a variety of community development programs such as the Community Development Block Grant Program, Community Housing Improvement Program, Comprehensive Downtown Revitalization Program, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, New Horizons Fair Housing Assistance Program, and the Water and Sanitary Sewer Program.
