GOVERNOR, BARBASH ANNOUNCE GRANTS TO BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITIES
Projects Invigorate Regional Economies, Generate Jobs for Ohioans  

COLUMBUS – Governor Ted Strickland and Mark Barbash, Interim Director of the Ohio Department of Development, today announced that $155,000 in economic development grants have been awarded to aid in the growth of businesses and the creation and retention of jobs in Ohio. The grants, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, were approved today by the State Controlling Board and could create 92 positions and retain 278 jobs for Ohioans.

“Strategic investments that foster the evolution of our state’s manufacturing skill toward sustainable and growing sectors of the wider economy position Ohio to capitalize on our globally competitive strengths,” Barbash said. “Manufacturers and advanced energy companies alike find in Ohio an attractive combination of skilled and dedicated workers, substantial quality of life advantages, and a business friendly tax environment.”

The Kalt Manufacturing Company will receive a $15,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with the purchase of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s expansion project in the City of North Ridgeville (Lorain County). The Kalt Manufacturing Company is a precision CNC (computer numerical controlled) machining facility with capacity up to 30 tons, offering engineering services as well as fastener equipment rehabilitation. Over the last three years the company has expanded into the renewable energy fields of wind turbine and fuel cell component manufacturing.   This $3 million project is expected to create 22 positions and retain 42 jobs.

Bardwill Industries, Inc. will receive a $30,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with the purchase of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s relocation to the City of Columbus (Franklin County). Bardwill Industries is an importing company with global reach, operating license agreements and selling private label merchandise to major retail customers. This $1.5 million project is expected to create 50 positions.

Cardinal Fastener & Specialty Co., Inc. will receive a $10,000 Rapid Outreach Grant for the costs associated with the purchase of machinery and equipment in support of the company’s expansion project in the City of Bedford Heights (Cuyahoga County). Cardinal Fastener & Specialty was founded in 1968 and has since become a leader in the hot forge bolt industry by expanding into the advanced energy manufacturing supply chain. This $690,000 project is expected to create 20 positions and retain 61 jobs.

The Village of Swanton will receive a $100,000 Roadwork Development Grant to complete public roadwork improvements in support of Swanton Welding & Machining Co., Inc.’s project in the Village of Swanton (Fulton County). The Village of Swanton will repave a main roadway in order to better accommodate increased truck traffic. This $207,145 project is expected to retain 175 jobs.

The Rapid Outreach Grant is a grant program to assist companies and communities that are creating or retaining jobs in Ohio.

The Roadwork Development Account provides grant assistance to communities for highway and road projects related to job creation and retention. The Roadwork Development Account is funded with gas tax dollars and is restricted to public road projects only.
