BARBASH ANNOUNCES A SERIES OF SMALL BUSINESS SEMINARS
FOR MINORITY BUSINESS OWNERS

COLUMBUS  -- Ohio Department of Development Interim Director Mark Barbash today announced a series of small business seminars for minority business owners.  The initiative, sponsored by the Department’s Small Business Development Centers, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Urban Leagues of Columbus and Dayton, is a broad effort to strengthen and expand business ownership among minorities.  The seminars will be offered from March through November.

“Small businesses have to continually adapt to an increasingly challenging and competitive global economy," said Barbash. "The Small Business Development Series will help small and minority-owned businesses to access resources that can help them grow and enhance their entrepreneurial skills."

The Small Business Development Series on Resource Training was developed specifically to address the needs of minority business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Representatives from Small Business Development Centers, U.S. Small Business Administration, and the Urban League will give in-depth overviews of small business programs and services available to assist minority entrepreneurs and business owners. The seminars will provide information on establishing a business, operating a business, loan programs, free counseling, and training.

All Resource Training seminars will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Columbus Urban League, located at 788 Mount Vernon Avenue, or at the Dayton Urban League, located at 907 West 5th Street. The Resource Training seminars are free of charge, but registration is required.

In addition to the Resource Training seminars, there will be a fee-based series focusing on entrepreneurship training.  This Entrepreneurship Training will provide information on topics such as 21st century leadership, human capital, and building strategic alliances.  Entrepreneurship Training seminars will be held at the Small Business Administration Training Center, located at 401 North Front Street, Suite 200, Columbus, Ohio or online via a ReadyTalk Webinar.  The fee for each Entrepreneurship Training seminar is $19.95.

Interested business owners can learn more about the seminar series or may register by contacting the Columbus Small Business Administration office at (614) 469-6860 or by visiting development.ohio.gov/Entrepreneurship.

Additional co-sponsors of the 2009 Small Business Development Series Seminars include SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business," National City Bank (now a part of PNC), National CEO Leadership Institute, and Tiny Communications, LLC.

Ohio's Small Business Development Centers provide consulting and training assistance to small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs to promote growth, expansion, innovation, increased productivity, and improved management. The Centers  are supported through a partnership among the Ohio Department of Development, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and several chambers of commerce, colleges and universities, and economic development agencies.
