State Approves $750,000 in Clean Ohio Funds for the
City of Dayton
Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel today announced that a $750,000 Clean Ohio Assistance Fund grant was approved by the State Controlling Board for the City of Dayton. The Clean Ohio Assistance Fund supports brownfield redevelopment of Ohio's urban areas, and is made possible through the Ohio Bipartisan Job Stimulus Plan.
The City of Dayton (Montgomery County) will receive the grant for the costs associated with demolition and remediation on the Caldwell Street project, located at 1600 and 1620 Brown Street. The City and its development partner, MVO Building Solutions III, LLC, plan to redevelop the site near the University of Dayton for student housing. The University has committed $30 million for the project, which will provide 400 apartments for international undergraduate students and an expansion of its Center for International Programs. The plan includes eight new buildings, totaling approximately 150,000 square feet of construction. The redevelopment will result in the creation of up to 17 jobs.
"Clean Ohio funds are the first step in making this plan a reality, helping to create jobs and further economic development around the University of Dayton campus," Patt-McDaniel said. "We are excited to see the transformation of this site into a beautiful facility that the University's international students can enjoy for years to come."
The Clean Ohio Assistance Fund is a program within the Clean Ohio Fund, which restores, protects, and connects Ohio's important natural and urban places by preserving green space and farmland, improving outdoor recreation, and cleaning up brownfields to encourage redevelopment and revitalize communities. The Clean Ohio Fund is part of the Ohio Bipartisan Job Stimulus Plan, which aims to create new jobs while laying the foundation for future economic prosperity. As part of the Plan, voters approved $400 million for the Clean Ohio Fund. The Clean Ohio Assistance Fund is an open cycle program that provides grant dollars for Phase II Environmental Assessment and Brownfield Cleanup/Public Health Projects. To date, 173 Clean Ohio Assistance Fund projects have been awarded totaling more than $62.8 million. Of the 173 projects, 54 were for cleanup projects, which leveraged more than $958 million and are expected to create 5,600 jobs.
