Patt-McDaniel Announces More than $1.2 Million to Assist
Communities with Improving Water and Sewer Systems
Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel today announced that Holmes County, the Village of Mendon, and the Village of Rockford will receive more than $1.2 million from the federally funded Water and Sanitary Sewer Program administered by the Department's Office of Housing and Community Partnerships.
"These awards are vital to the health and well-being of Ohio's communities, helping them to operate more efficiently through necessary improvements to sewer and water lines,” Patt-McDaniel said. "These infrastructure improvements will help hundreds of Ohio families.”
Holmes County (Walnut Creek Township) will receive a $371,800 grant to install approximately 4,320 feet of sewer lines along State Route 39 from the old flea market to Route 401. The County will also help 15 eligible households connect to the system. The estimated total cost of the project is $743,700 and will benefit 22 households.
The Village of Mendon (Mercer County) will receive a $483,000 grant to replace approximately 19,650 feet of waterline. The estimated total cost of the project is $1.21 million and will benefit 292 households.
The Village of Rockford (Mercer County) will receive a $390,000 grant to replace approximately 11,500 feet of waterline. The estimated total cost of the project is $985,000 and will benefit 486 households.
The Water and Sanitary Sewer Program helps local governments maintain, improve, and expand water and sanitary sewer systems. Applications for the program are accepted continuously and are rated against the following criteria: number of individuals expected to benefit from the project; ability to leverage funds; program impact; program readiness; and the community's financial capacity and rate structure. Communities with documented health and safety concerns receive priority for funding.
The Office of Housing and Community Partnerships provides financial and technical assistance to units of local government and nonprofit organizations in Ohio for project activities that benefit low- and moderate-income citizens.
