TAFT JOINS SUMCO USA FOR EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT
Company’s $51 Million Expansion to Create 260 Jobs in Warren County

Governor Bob Taft today participated in a tree planting ceremony commemorating SUMCO USA’s decision to expand its Maineville (Warren County) facility. The company plans to make a $51 million investment in this expansion project to accommodate additional wafer production, creating 260 jobs and retaining 406 positions.
“SUMCO’s plan to expand its Warren County operation is a win for SUMCO and a win for the state,” said Taft. “I’m pleased that SUMCO has expressed its confidence and commitment to Ohio, and to its workforce here in Hamilton Township.”

We have had the support of the state of Ohio and Maineville community for many years, and we look forward to a continued strong relationship," said newly appointed Yasuo Tsujigo, president and chief executive officer of SUMCO USA.
SUMCO manufactures polished and epitaxial silicon wafers in 100, 125, 150, 200, and 300 millimeter diameters for the global semiconductor industry. SUMCO wafers are used to make integrated circuits and semiconductor devices that power electronic products used every day – from computers to cell phones, digital watches to automobile engine systems. SUMCO operates 14 facilities worldwide, in Japan, the U.S., Indonesia and Europe.
“This announcement is the culmination of numerous efforts at the state and local level,” said Bruce Johnson, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “This is an excellent example of how a concerted economic development effort can benefit an entire community.” Johnson noted that the Ohio Department of Development, offered SUMCO the following assistance for this project:
- A variable rate Job Creation Tax Credit for a 10-year term, which is valued at $2.1 million;
- A $400,000 Ohio Investment in Training Program grant;
- A $500,000 Business Development grant;
- A $4 million direct loan; and
- An $8 million Ohio Enterprise Bond.
Additionally, a $900,000 Roadwork Development grant and a $5 million Ohio Water Development Authority loan were offered to the local community to assist with roadway improvements, eligible sewer, storm water and water improvement costs associated with this project.
