Business and Industry >> Energy Efficiency >> EERE Options EERE Options - Efficiency There are many policy options available to states to increase the adoption and use of energy efficient practices, equipment, and technologies. Some of the most common include building codes, appliance standards, public benefit funds, energy efficiency portfolio standards, and integrated resource planning.
This plan was developed by more than 50 leading organizations in pursuit of energy savings and environmental benefits through electric and natural gas energy efficiency. Facilitated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
An Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (EEPS) is a market-based mechanism that requires energy providers to meet quantitative targets for energy savings, typically in the electricity and/or natural gas sectors. This document provides information about the objectives, benefits and barriers to adopting an EEPS along with examples of different design and implementation structures found in different states in the U.S.
