Entrepreneurship and Small Business << Did You Know

The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Division understands that when starting a business in Ohio, there are several aspects to consider. The insurance you will purchase to help protect you, your Ohio business, and your employees is one of your top considerations. We have provided informational links below to help when making these important decisions for you and your small business.

Insurance Tips for Small Business Employers

  1. Continually conduct a risk assessment of the business, first by yourself and business partners (if necessary), and then with an agent.
  2. Talk with an agent who specializes in health insurance and small business insurance/commercial lines.
  3. Research insurance-related associations and the yellow pages. View the agent locator application on the Ohio Department of Insurance website at  www.ohioinsurance.gov to find an agent.
  4. Make sure the agent is familiar with assessing risk involved with your type of business. An agent can tell you if laws require you to have certain types of coverage.
  5. Call the Ohio Department of Insurance's small business employer hotline at (866) 895-0172 with questions.
